Highway Department crews are out addressing flooding and tree damage due to the storm which moved through our area overnight and is continuing to move away. There is major road flooding town wide due to the rainfall associated with the storm system a lunar high tide and wind direction. We are addressing flooding in areas where it can be remedied prior to the tide receding, all areas will be monitored as the tide recedes and dealt with accordingly.
There are also several areas of trees down and blocking the roadway due to the heavy sustained winds. Should you come across a downed tree please report it immediately through police dispatch at (631) 765-2600. Do not approach the tree as there could be downed power lines as well.
We are out on the roads and closely monitoring the conditions as the storm moves away. We are watching the temperature as it is expected to drop and will send our salt and sand crews should they be needed.
Be well and be safe,
Dan Goodwin, Superintendent of Highways
