Welcome to the Town of Southold website. Thank you for visiting online where we have made available resources and information to help you learn about the Town as well as understand how government will best serve you.

Whether you are considering a visit to the Town for the first time, seeking to establish a business in Southold or you are already involved with Southold government, this site is designed to engage you with a one-stop approach to meet your needs.

Settled by English colonists in 1640, the Town of Southold celebrated its 375 anniversary in 2015 with a series of events to affirm its heritage. Southold occupies most of Long Island’s North Fork and includes ten hamlets (Fishers Island, Orient, East Marion, Greenport West, Southold, Peconic, Cutchogue, New Suffolk, Mattituck and Laurel along with the incorporated Village of Greenport.) The character of the Town of Southold is defined by our citizens, our unique physical and visual attributes, unparalleled history and the experiences of our visitors.

Southold has long been a cherished destination and continues to evolve with its unspoiled beaches, sprawling vineyards and wineries, agricultural production and farm stands, historic buildings, museums and unlimited recreational opportunities. Its bucolic qualities, culture and history have made Southold a special place to visit and/or live and thrive with its unique shopping opportunities and casual and fine dining fare.

Keeping Southold special and vital is a worthwhile challenge. The Town has embarked upon developing a comprehensive plan to position Southold as a desirable place with fruitful resources to share with our residents and visitors for years to come.

The Town Board has made a major commitment to create this website as an important resource for everyone and I hope you find it valuable.
