Juvenile Aid Bureau

Juvenile Aid Bureau / Community Response Unit

The Juvenile Aid Bureau is responsible for the investigation of crimes committed by juveniles as well as providing information to parents in regards to the different avenues that can be explored for a positive outcome with a troubled child. The Southold Town Police Department is committed to the development and implementation of programs designed to reach out to the youth of the community and establish positive relationships, and to prevent and control juvenile delinquency and other behavior that impacts on the quality of life in our community. As part of the Community Response Unit, the Department’s trained JAB officer works closely with our local schools, acting as liaison between the school and our local police department.
D.A.R.E. Officer
The Community Response Unit is involved with events that are scheduled throughout the year to bring the police department closer to the community and to solve specific problems at hand, such as the Drug Abuse Resistance Education, commonly known as the D.A.R.E. Program. We offer a variety of services to the citizens of Southold Town, including child safety seat inspections and trainings in alcohol, drug and crime prevention, as well as courses in bicycle safety and DWI programs.

The JAB Officer also serves on the Southold Town Youth Bureau Board, provides instruction in law related classes, assists school counselors, addresses community groups, and provides classroom lectures to Driver’s Education classes. The Southold Town Police Department prides itself in developing a good working relationship with our community.
