In 2006 Supervisor Scott Russell convened a “youth forum” with parents, youth, human service providers, school personnel and Town staff to discuss ways the Town could address and advance the needs of local youth. This effort lead to the creation of a Youth Bureau through grant funding by New York State Office of Children and Family Services. The Town Board passed a resolution in January 2008 to establish a Youth Bureau which is recognized by the state as a valuable planning tool for municipalities to offer prevention services for youth.
Mission Statement
The Youth Bureau will seek to promote and enhance the physical, mental and social well-being of youth in the Town of Southold. Through collaboration and partnerships with youth, parents, schools, libraries, faith-based institutions and agencies that serve youth, the Youth Bureau will foster proactive planning and coordination of services and programs to address the many needs of youth and their families.
