TOWN OF SOUTHOLD

The Town of Southold recognizes that Battery Energy Storage System facilities are key component to the viability and promotion of renewable energy sources; and  in order to craft town code that will establish the criteria for future siting, site design, safety requirements and all other elements necessary for the proper consideration of such facilities, the Town Board desires to establish a task force to assist in certain amendments to the Comprehensive Plan that will address the considerations and goals for battery energy storage and support an amendment to the Town Code; and  said task force shall undertake a thorough examination of these systems to identify any possible threats to public health, safety and welfare as well as evaluate the potential for environmental degradation.

The task force shall be comprised of representatives of the residents and businesses of the Town of Southold and have a strong technical background. This committee position is not paid.
