Wine production is a vital component of Southold’s agricultural industry and a significant contributor to the economy of the region. The growth of this industry and the establishment of several new wineries has been key to Southold’s growth as a tourist destination. New York State has placed a particular focus on promoting the industry by adopting policies, guidelines amending State law governing wineries, breweries, distilleries and cideries. These, coupled with substantial financial incentives, have created rapidly growing interest in establishing these businesses in the Town.
The Town code governing wineries was created several decades ago with few changes since. The group will review the current code for its sufficiency addressing current operations and flexibility to address new models.
